Flood Management Information System (Phase-I and Phase-II) in Bihar
For strengthening the FMIS, the Government of Bihar and the World Bank made agreement. it was made for the improvement of the institutional capacity for delivering better flood management and drainage services. It aims for accelerating agriculture Productivity in north Bihar
The development of FMIS is planned in four stages:
Phase-I (August 2006 till 30.06.08)
The FMIS in the first stage had covered the focus area from Burhi Gandak river in the west & Kosi river in the east in north Bihar. In this phase FMIS has been set up. The website (http://fmis.bih.nic.in) is operational providing public access to flood data. FMIS officers have been trained and other activities completed.
Phase –II Project Components (31-05-2010 till Nov’ 2014)
Focus area extended to whole of North Bihar, with the objective of improved flood Forecasting and early spatial warning etc. it focuses on three components.
Flood Management Improvement Support Center, Bihar collects hydrological and hydro meteorological data from different, Government Agencies.
