The disaster affected all classes of the community and there was the need of a very large relief fund. The government had failed to provide relief immediately. On the 27 of January 1934, Rajendra Prasad made a countrywide appeal for funds to help in relief work. Soon after, the Bihar Central Relief Committee (BCRC) was formed with Rajendra Prasad as president.

Exemplary work of Humanitarian Help by BCRC

The Congress set up branches of the relief committee in all the districts. It received contributions in the shape of money, rice, utensils, clothes, blankets and medicines from all parts of the country.   Food and clothes were distributed. New wells were constructed and a large number of old ones were repaired. BCRC was supported by social service organizations like the Marwari Relief Society, the Menon Relief Society, Ramakrishna Mission, the Red Cross, Indian Medical Association and the Sankat Taran.
