World Vision: priority to Child centered Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
World Vision has always given priority to the well being of children in addressing disaster risk. After a series of consultation with children from hazard prone countries World Vision makes advocacy to give priority to children in Post 2015 framework for DRR process. It has identified key priority areas for children in DRR .In envisages that it will create platform for the well-being of children and their communities and provide safeguard from the natural and social hazards like flood and violence.
The post 2015 Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) includes
• Children’s participation
• Establishing or reinforce child protection
• Making schools safe from disasters
• Building life skills
• Ensuring that all children especially the most vulnerable have access to quality services
• Increasing accountability:
• Taking up risk-informed development
It makes strong advocacy that government authorities should ensure systematic and active children participation in all disaster risk reduction projects. It also makes forceful advocacy for the safe school and empowerment of children and youth with life skills.
WN repeatedly shows its commitment to protect the right of children and thereby reinforces convention on the rights of children.
