Critical Infrastructures and Disaster Risk Reduction
Training Module
(in the Context of Natural Hazards)

Development of nation depends upon the infrastructure. Therefore the protection of Critical Infrastructure in any disaster is important.. It is relevant for India too due to its proneness to a wide range of natural hazards. India witnesses   several hazard events like  earthquakes, floods, , landslides, dry spells cyclones and others which seriously  impacts  the Critical Infrastructure. Damage of  Critical infrastructure  affects  the functioning of the society. Additionally, the country is characterized by high economic growth rates and infrastructure sectors are constantly expanding. It is important to account for infrastructure vulnerability when investing and extending these systems in order to improve their resilience since they are key for further socio-economic development. A safe electrical energy supply plays a crucial role in this development. Therefore this module has a particular focus on electricity infrastructure and the methodological perspectives for assessing its vulnerability. This module provides an introduction to disaster risk reduction of Critical Infrastructures in the context of natural hazards. The module has   four Learning Units)
A: Understanding Critical Infrastructure
B: Vulnerability of Critical Infrastructure to natural  hazards
C: Methods of Critical Infrastructure vulnerability assessment Learning Unit
D: Addressing Critical Infrastructure vulnerability
